18.What information describes an enlargement?
The scale factor and the centre of enlargement.
19.What happens with a scale factor between 0 and 1?
The shape gets smaller, though it is still called an enlargement.
20.What happens with a negative scale factor?
The image appears on the opposite side of the centre of enlargement and is inverted.
21.Which transformations produce a congruent image?
Translation, reflection and rotation. Only enlargement changes the size.
22.If the length scale factor is k, what is the area scale factor?
k squared.
23.If the length scale factor is k, what is the volume scale factor?
k cubed.
24.A shape is enlarged by scale factor 3. What happens to its area?
It becomes 9 times as large.
25.What is a column vector?
A pair of numbers written vertically, the top showing movement right or left and the bottom showing up or down.
26.How do you add two vectors?
Add the top numbers together and the bottom numbers together.
27.What does multiplying a vector by a scalar do?
It multiplies both components, changing the length but not the direction unless the scalar is negative.
28.Why must the height in an area formula be perpendicular?
The formula measures the distance straight across from the base, not the slanted side length.
